Agree, the salt is for cooking, not for seasoning/ingredients.

metamorphesis wrote:don tink so.. if i'm not wrong u got to use very course salt, if not the fine salt will just render the dish senselessly salty...
whoa seh.. r31, ask ur granny for recipe pls!! I wana try cooking!!

saw from telly tat u can chuck fish / crab into the salt to bake in the oven, the salt act as a medium for heat and impart some flavour to the meat it's cooking.

Wow... not to that extend for a free year supply of fried chicken... :puke:

Later you will keep extending sideways after a year! :sweatdrop:

Didn't know there is an outlet opened at United Square...no wonder I saw a bus with their ad plying around that area...

Actually you can find the recipe online... What I saw my granny did was, tossing the wrapped chicken in the wok of salt and burying it for 30-45mins like that, IIRC... She probably have the recipe in her head...

You just need to find out what to do with the chicken before wrapping it up...

scyeo wrote:so is it very salty ?? coz i got high blood .... so if too salty cannot leh ....

That depends on your level of salty-ness determined by your taste bud...
IIRC, the juice from the chicken will be salty, and the skin is slightly salted...but not the meat inside...

Nah, happened to be around the area, and saw some guys "banging" their heads for missing the year's supply of TC. Anyway if really win the year's supply, can go treat us instead of extending sideways!

Guess the idea is just like the herbal chicken, whereby the chicken is wrapped in foil, with all the necessary ingredients/seasoning. Remember, we also wrap sweet potato, or stingray in the foil to cook during BBQ?

if i'm not wrong for the free 1 yr supply, there's a limit to how much u can take a day. Like the free baguette for delifrance, they've got a card which they need to stamp upon redemption / day. Miss a day and u don even get to ask for payback.

Of course... Free stuff are not also easy to come by...and there are always terms and conditions attached...

A sample of the salted baked chicken recipe...
It is using rock salt to bake the chicken... Stated in the recipe...

Perhaps anyone can try out using the above recipe and have a taste of victory?
But don't say I didn't warn you...heating the rock salts isn't easy.

Yeah, there's probably a small fine print that states the max number of chicken pieces a day. Don't think they'll back-date the chicken claims too.

Same as those free flow of canned drinks...

Probably a carton a day? Or a week?

Whoa seh... :sweatdrop: a lot of work!!! receipe says to heat the salt till it turns colour.. >_<!!! sounds like caramelizing sugar but till it changes colour.. erm... DEFINITELY no easy feat..
See when i free, i'll try this out and post pix. But i've nv come across coarse salt on sales b4... Anyone noes where to get??

Seems like the chinese version of baking the chicken except tat olden days no electric oven.

1 carton of canned drink / day.. hmmm.... there's a case in US where there was a challenge to see who can drink the most coke and 1 of the participant actually died from carbon dioxide poisoning..

Remember to share when you've perfected the recipe!

CO poisoning? Wow not worth for a carton of free coke IMHO.

went to DTE last night for Mr Chicken Rice.

since i did not like white chicken, thot maybe cud have either their black pepper beef rice or lemon chicken rice.

however, both were not available on weekends !!

so bopian, order 4 sets of the white chicken rice + 2 servings of their fried toufu.

the rice was ok, but the the chicken tasted abit dry and brittle.

the chicken was served in a small dish with a slice of tomato and cucumber and lettuce and in a sweet concoction of light soya-sauce....abit on the sweet side.

size of the serving was sufficient for me and my family.

the toufu seems quite normal ....deep firend and then served with sweet thai chilli sauce.

i wud grade them at 5.5/10 - maybe becoz i still do not, like white chicken.

Err, Mr Chicken Rice is famous at Chatterbox for his white chicken. If you want roasted chicken, go the foodcourt, where someone else took over his former store. Both stores serves pretty decent chicken rice.

was doing a search thru youtube for the salt baked chicken and i found this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3qYLseNDgw

Am rather surprised that the salt looks finer than i expected (was tinking along with rock sugar) LOL!!

Wasn't expecting it to be tat white too but the diff apart from the herbs and spices used is the absence of the parchment paper...
r31, is the dish supposed to look something like this??
