My Silly Question on Self Car Washing

Postby acosean » 12/07/10 2:50 pm

I know my following question will sound silly; but I hope you guys can appreciate why I am asking this:

Where can I get a (public) tap to "hose" my car? I don't mind having to pay a nominal fee, if need be.

If I live in a landed property, then there is no issue. But I ain't. Moreover, those 25-cent-coin-inserting car washing points in MCP is useless because it only generates up to 3 pails worth of water.

It is not that I stinge on not going for car washes in petrol stations. I did. But what is annoying is that despite having paid $7 (which could otherwise buy me a good KFC meal), there are still lots of patches and "leftovers" which warrants my another level of cleaning. So what's the point?

Only when I hose myself (I can buy a high-pressure nozzle jet from DIY stores) will I be able to remove such patches successfully!

Maybe some NParks with a tap at the bottom of the wall? Or some big factory area with taps? Pls suggest, thanks!

My (open-air) car park in Clementi has a tap that is 20 cents per pail in the adjacent HDB block. No limit to the number of pails. There's no dedicated washing point, so you need to do more work to carry the pail to your parking lot to use, though.
I'm organising a Defensive Driving Course for TeamChevySG.
Dates are already fixed for 18/25 September so let me know if you're interested!

hosing your car in carpark is illegal. try to do it at factory or worksite if you work there or your friend works there.

No leh, pail one (like I said earlier) doesn't serve my purpose. I don't care about legality. Cos if we talk about legality, cycling on pavement itself is already illegal. More than 5 people gathering together is also illegal. Not to talk about parking on double yellow lines......

Well.

You just got to find.

Some MSCP the tap at the stairs not locked.

You just need the special adaptor that you can purchase in most hardware shop to turn the tap.

The hose you need to bring yourself.

By right not suppose to use one. If caught don't know what the penalty is. But our washing time is like the wee hours after midnight.

That time I and another 3 kakis wash our 4 cars then after that one person just use his hose to spray our cars.

Hosing the car is illegal, even if you get water from your own semi-detached house.

You can always buy the pail+pump combo, which used to be popular, to do simple spraying washing/shampooing. My friend got his for ~S$120 IIRC soon after he got his super red Cruze.

Ha, I guess most of us have the "key" to operate the tap. One of my colleagues has the hose + clamp in his car, to get water from the MSCP. But the hose was used more to fill up water into the pails, as some taps are located at the staircase, in between the carpark decks.

personally i do not see the need for those commercial strong water sprays to wash our cars unless you are always in the dirt tracks.
otherwise, those sprays that are powered via lighter socket can be bought outside, and they draw water from pails or even their
own small storage tank.
i feel its more how we wash and 'scrub' the vehicle.
otherwise save the water pump, go JB wash and pump once a week.

some people buy a tap adapter with hose and then screw onto the water dispenser and spray the vehicle when washing
