roadside speed detectors

Postby scyeo » 26/07/10 12:30 am

just came across a roadside speed detector this afternoon when exiting PIE into Bedok North, coming from the west ....

made the exit and as i was spiraling up the bridge, the detector readings hit me in my face and i was taken aback abit when i saw the thingy, i braked immediately !! ..... really distracting man and damn dangerous !!!

It serves as a reminder bah.. There's one near yishun exit from SLE (did I get the names rite??) but if 2 cars pass abeam of each other, it only reads the speed of the nearer wan.

Please don't ever jam brakes when seeing a light, and cause an accident. Those behind are innocent.

IIRC the speed reminder was first implemented at the road leading to Changi airport. It was a lollipop that says "50" if you exceed the speed. They have one at SLE exit Lentor too. But the new version shows your actual speed.

there's one at clementi ave 6, but never took note of the displayed speed as it is distracting...

however, i encounter the one at SLE lentor exit around 2 months back, i could take a look, as my bro is driving, the speed show 58, but my bro told me the car's speed is at 70...

Speedometers will show a higher speed than the actual speed. Car manufacturing rules typically allow up to 7% + 10km/h increase from the actual speed. So, you may be travelling at 100km/h, but the speedometer can show as much as 100 + 7 + 10 = 117km/h speed. From experience, mine is about 7% off (no +10km/h off) (and no, this is not due to changing the rims / tyres). The roadside speed detectors and GPS speed indicators are more accurate.
I'm organising a Defensive Driving Course for TeamChevySG.
Dates are already fixed for 18/25 September so let me know if you're interested!

the one at clementi ave 6...probably its jus a speed warning system. well, based on my last appeal to TP...i think the most "sensitive" speed camera will be the one at KPE...above 10km/h, dbl flash.. tio liao...however, my appeal was succesful anyway.

iirc... KPE speed limit is 80km/h...i still rmbr mine was slightly below 90km/h when i see my speedometer jus after the dbl flash happen.

licence "gantung" is faster than u can imagine...so tk care of yr points. learn mine the hard way.

so KPE speed limit is not 70km/h

KPE 70,80 or 90km/h, i'm not 100% sure cos its been such long time sine the last i used it...in general, most xpressways at 90km/h, however i know some still maintain at 80km/h....but for KPE the only problem,is dat the 80km/h signboard is only placed jus before the entry of the tunnel...once u goin w/o looking at it or forget, start to think oredi when approaching camera, is it 90 or 80km/h...naturally, i tend to maintain at 90km/h since most expressways "revamped" with the 90km/h ruling... the main thing here, KPE camera is super sensitive even to a +10km/h,.now i dun know wheteher still same or not cos this incident happen when KPE jus open...for the record, this is based on the the TP summon which was previously given to me.

comparing with PIE speed limit of 90km/h...so far even if i drive 100-110km/h, also nothing...try it at yr own risk tho'.
