Make more aware of 'idling engine' law

I REFER to the reply by the National Environment Agency last Saturday ("Did you know?"), stating that it is an offence to leave an engine running when a vehicle is stationary for reasons other than traffic conditions. How many people out there are aware that leaving engines idling is flouting the law? Not many, I believe.

Hence, the idea of working with fleet owners and transport associations is not good enough, as there are many motorists who are not aware of this rule - and the harm that their idling engines are causing to the environment.

Putting up signage may seem like a good move, but many motorists would turn a blind eye to them. More can be done. There should be a one-month national campaign using the mass media, especially television. This way, the message can reach more motorists.

After all, our environment is at stake.

Taxis like to do that. I wonder if they are tracked for these.

Anyway, not many know maybe cos not tightly enforced.

Still the old-outdated mindset that diesel engines need to be kept hot.

Definitely... They cannot be swtich on & off as you wish...unlike petrol cars...

If you switch off engine, later the next passenger comes onboard will complain the aircon not cold...

If park under the shade, it shouldn't be difficult to cool down the cabin.

Guess the mindset have to change somehow. The cabbie might have to leave the car idle for a while and blast the aircon fan at maximum speed.

Mother Earth is dying. :sweatdrop:

For petrolheads like us, probably nothing will deter us. Unless they do the same as in UK, charge according to your CO2 emission... :sweatdrop:

Oh well, we might not live that long to witness it. Or rather, suffer for it. Pity lil' Chris. :sweatdrop:

But hopefully more can be done, quickly enough. *Fingers crossed*
