The noontec quite rubbish. The customer service is none and the network link drove me mad. It is OK if you only intend to play from internal HD.

Honestly, what do they really do?

Is it a central HDD device that stores media files and stream over the air to TV, laptop, PC & etc?
Or, it gets the media files from PC & laptops that are connected and stream to the TV?

Saw the AC Ryan, quite pricely tho. :/

Thought of getting one without HDD, doing network streaming since I already have another network HDD.

Hehehe, currently connecting my laptop to the TV, sort of messy there. So just thinking of any other options. Media player comes with remote, that's good for lazy pple like me. :D

I'm using the WD TV Live. Costs $199 now I think. No internal HDD, you can either plug in a USB HD or connect over Ethernet network to the video / audio files. No problems playing full-HD MKVs, which is what I play most of the time.

Like that can set timer to record the shows from different channels if its a cable tv user? Or can record the show while watching or set up manually.

No need to miss an episode then.

Never used the AC Ryan, but unlikely to be able to record from different cable TV channels. The channel selection is controlled from the set-top box and the DVR has no control over that. You need to get Starhub's own DVR to be able to do that... which is grossly overpriced, under-featured, and hugely buggy, of course.

That's where their profit comes... Monopolise the market and selling you stuffs at the price that many folds of the product. And the best thing is that its a rental set!

actually the hubstation is not that expensive. i have one at home. need to pay $4 more a month. but it comes with free broadband and recording feature. dual tuner recording some more. $4 for the broadband is cheap enough already.

Huh? It says on the Starhub page that rental is $24/month for the Hubstation HD. Even for the Hubstation (non-HD), it's $15/month.

He is comparing with a standard set-up box...
But the cost in a long run, is really crap for the device provided...

Smart way to generate profit lo...
